WALKING There is nothing more relaxing than letting the "car rest" for a day and taking a hike on the McGillycuddy Reeks to the North which includes Carrauntoohil 3414' Ireland's highest peak or the Cahas to the South. The house library has many books/maps/pamphlets on walks and climbs of varying distance. The Hostess is willing to offer assistance in picking routes, as she walks the highways and biways during the winter months. Besides the mountains, the Kerry Way 120K , a long distance walking route passes through Kenmare to the North and the Beara Way skirts the town on the South. The Killarney National Park a few miles down the road has some interesting circular walks around Ross Castle, Muckross House, Torc, Old Kenmare Road. Interesting circular routes also around Derrynane House (Daniel O Connell's ancestral home) and Kilmakilloge on the Beara Peninsula.
